NEW PLYMOUTH CLASSICAL GUITAR SOCIETY

Events

Performances by the Society's members have been numerous and varied: every year, performances at the Festival of Lights; throughout the year regular recitals at resthomes, hospital, fairs, markets, garden parties, special events, such as Walk for Life fundraiser. Some members joined together as a quartet, now called 'Six by Four', and two formed a duet called 'Guitarra'. Both have gone on to secure regular perfomance slots throughout Taranaki.

The Society has hosted many world-class concert artists who have given memorable performances well attended by members and general public alike. Some of the concerts were followed by valuable workshops.

Taranaki Classical Guitar Summer School 2024

When:  January 2024
Details: TCGSS
With the uncertainty caused by the global pandemic, it is with a heavy heart we have decided to cancel TCGSS 2022.

We usually have an international cohort of artists and registrants. With the uncertainty of border closures, international flights, and the speed of potential governmental changes (to name a few considerations) we believe this is the safest course of action for all concerned.

At this stage we expect to be back in 2024 so keep practicing, stay safe and we look forward to seeing you then.

This not for profit family-friendly event celebrates the classical guitar community of New Zealand by creating a central place of learning in New Zealand. The Taranaki Classical Guitar Summer School is jam packed with workshops, masterclasses and ensembles designed to improve both your guitar playing and appreciation. This week is perfect for any guitarist from a Grade 2 level of playing and up, and is not suitable for the absolute beginner.

Registrants are given many opportunities to play in front of audiences. In addition to teaching, the beautiful New Plymouth will come alive to the sounds of a diverse line-up of entertainment featuring the best of the national and international classical guitar.
