WELCOME to the New Plymouth Classical Guitar Society Inc. The Society is always keen to establish links with other societies/classical guitar groups.
New members are made very welcome and if you have an interest in the classical guitar, join them for their next meeting, and enjoy a musical moment or two in a convivial and informal manner. One of the most important aims of our Society is to bring all ages together in the establishment, the promotion and the enjoyment of the playing and study of the classical guitar.
The next meeting will be 7:30 Monday 12th September, to attend email Dominique Blatti for venue details.
Look out for the brilliant write up of the friends and family concert 2016 in the Taranaki Daily News.
The 2016 AGM has just been held and we are delighted to welcome Catherine Deeley to the role of Society Secretary. Carrying on for another successful year will be Dominique Blatti as President and Jane Kernohan as Treasurer.
Hamish Goodhue was selected to take part in the New Zealand Super Eight Competitions, held in Tauranga at the end of May. Formed in 1997, the New Zealand Super Eight group of schools incorporates the eight boys' high schools from their respective provincial cities of the central North Island.
The first sporting competitions were sponsored by Canterbury International and commenced in 1998, involving rugby and cricket. Since that time, the Super Eight concept has grown to include not only 10 sports competitions, but also a variety of cultural competitions, including music.
This year, the winner of the Senior Solo Music was a classical guitarist, who took part to the 2016 TCGSS: Krishn Naicker-Duggal. The first and second placing in the Junior Solo Music were both classical guitarists, Hamish taking second place. Great to see the strength of the classical guitar.
Another youngster making his mark is Reuben Chan, who recently competed in the New Plymouth Orchestra Concerto Competitions: Reuben came third. Great results.
